Networking - Restaurants, Bars and Other
Miscellaneous Entertainment Options
I use this part of Social Notes to promote businesses
and networking opportunities that I think might be of
interest to all of you.  If you haven't yet sent me a blurb
about your business, I hope you'll get around to it soon.

Please note the Navigation Bar on the left-hand side of
this page.  I finally got around to subdividing the
Networking section to make it easier to find things!
RESTAURANTS
  Rainbow Lodge
The Lodge is not a strictly gay establishment, but you'll always see plenty of
friendly faces, whether you're there for fabulous dinners, Sunday brunch, wine
tastings or a reasonably priced lunch.  The setting is a log cabin/hunting lodge,
with the prettiest deck/view in town.  The food and service are totally
gourmet, and first class in every way!
Rainbow Lodge is located at 2011 Ella at
TC Jester (a couple of blocks inside of Loop 610)

  Anita's
"The "soon-to-be-famous" Anita-Rita dominates the bar menu at this trendy
GLBT Montrose spot which is also a full-service restaurant specializing in
American casual cuisine. Open Tuesday - Thurs till 2am, Friday & Saturday 'til 6
a.m. and Sunday till 2am. 2409 Grant Street, 713/522-2867.   Or visit their
website.

  MAM'S House of Ice Snoballs
MAM's is a very cute, custom built trailer that looks like a little house, serving
New Orleans style snoballs YUM!!!  MAM's is located in the Fiesta parking lot in
the Heights (Studewood and 14th St).   It's a wonderful way to cool off during
the summer.....so bring the family and enjoy the fluffiest snoballs in Houston.
Visit them on facebook at MAM'S House of Ice Snoballs.

BARS
  Meteor
Meteor is without a doubt the most beautiful gay bar in town.  If you are
looking for a classy, up-scale environment with a clientelle to match, then
Meteor is the bar for you!  Although it definitely attracts more men than
women, us gals of the lebezianic persuasion have always been treated well there
(at least in my experience).  Meteor is home to Professional Women's Happy
Hour, which is held the first Wednesday of each month.
Meteor is located at
2306 Genesee at the northwest corner of Fairview and Genesee.

  Brazos River Bottom (BRB)
The BRB is pure country, for sure!  This is primarily a men's bar, but you'll see
a lot of women on Friday nights, and a scattering of women on Saturdays.  Free
C&W dance lessons each Thursday night and several times a month on Fridays
(check the Social Notes calendar page for the Friday schedule).  The bar is
clean, well run and attracts a decent clientele.
BRB is located at 2400 Brazos
Street, behind Spec's Midtown.

  Chances
Good lord, what can you say about Chances?  It is the only lesbian bar in town.
It is packed on the weekends.  It is also a total dump.  To say I am not a fan
would be an understatement!   It's hard for me to imagine a situation in which
an evening at Chances would be my best entertainment alternative, but
apparently lots of honky-tonking lesbians disagree.  Chances is actually four bars
under one roof:
The New Barn:  Kicker music, flannel shirts,  and boot scootin'
Chill: an upscale martini bar (who knew that the mullet crowd drinks
    martinis!)
Chances:  featuring sports, live music and misc. "entertainment"
The "tastefully named" G Spot:  club music
You can check it out for yourself by clicking here.

  Guava Lamp
Guava Lamp is not a women's bar (indeed, they turned down the opportunity to
host Professional Women's Happy Hours) but there are lots of women who enjoy
this little hideaway off Waugh close to Allen Parkway.  Guava Lamp is a
big step
up from Chances decor, but not as elegant as meteor.  Still, it's a nice enough
place to grab a drink.   Get more info and directions
here.

  Ranch Hill Saloon
Yes, Virginia, there ARE gay bars in the suburbs!  We're EVERYWHERE!  Ranch
Hill Saloon provides north-side Glibbits with a little slice of Montrose outside
the loop.  They welcome men, women and whatever might lie in between!  The
bar is located off I-45 North at Spring Crossing Drive.  Check out their
website for a listing of daily specials, Wii tournaments and more.
